Bheema Review 2

A lot has been told about the delay over Bheema. Some doomsayers even predicted that the movie would not see the light at all. But the team of Bheema was unperturbed. Vikram once said, "Bheema is a sure winner irrespective of when it comes. It is worth waiting for such a film".
Now the movie has seen the light and it has vindicated Vikram’s words.
The whole team deserves applaud for providing us a neat entertainer. Lingusamy, Vikram, Prakash Raj, Ashish Vidyarthi, Raghuvaran, Kanal Kannan, Harris Jayaraj, R.D. Rajasekar and S. Ramakrishnan have done their best to make it a smart and stylish action film. And you have the charming Trisha as a gentle breeze amidst a powerful storm.
The story is all about a tug of war between two underworld gangs trying to outsmart each other. Periyavar’s (Raghuvaran) group is bigger and more powerful, while Chinna’s (Prakash Raj) group is struggling to gain strength.
Enters Shekar (Vikram). The powerful man adds new life to Chinna’s gang. He challenges Periyavar’s powerful troupe and puts China on top. He is the man who grew up seeing Chinna as his ideal. He is a man of steel - physically and mentally. He, as Chinna tells once, bears everyone on his powerful shoulders like the Bheema of Mahabharatha.
The gangs are targeted by the new police commissioner (Ashish Vidyarthi) and the three pronged hunting begins.
Lingusamy has worked out a strong script and executed it with aplomb. He has excellently handled his cast to make it an entertainer. He has to be commended for not restoring to any gimmicks in the pretext of providing entertainment. He is also bold enough to avoid a comedy track, which would have been an irritant in the script.
The characterization is near perfect. Like the legendary Bheema, Shekar is always ready to attack, unmindful of who stands against him. If he puts a step forward, there is no looking back. Powerful, straight forward, and fearlessness. Lingusamy, with the able support of dialogue writer Ramakrishnan, has shaped the character remarkably well. The relationship between Shekar and China is well portrayed.
However, there are a few loopholes in the script. The boy of a powerless policeman seeing solid Chinna as his ideal is convincing. But the reason behind why he should become a ruthless gangster is not established well.
Likewise, his handling of the track of gang war, entwined with police action, is quite smart. But his presentation of love track is less convincing. The love between a thug and a middle class girl is a routine thing we could see in many films of this genre. The turning point over the love or the transformation of the protagonist because of his love is hard to digest. The climax is something unexpected. The picturisation of the songs is spectacular. But one song in the second half could have been avoided.
Vikram has lived up to the expectations with a dominant and flawless performance. If his hard work to become physically strong is praise worthy, his efforts to transform himself as the character are stunning. He reflects the essence of the character both physically and mentally. His body language - particularly his eyes - is awesome. He breaths fire in the stunt scenes. The fights in the rain and in the construction site (intermission point) are astonishing.
He also scores in romantic sequences, which are very less in this action packed movie. He brings out the transformation in his character because of love in a lovely manner. Hats off to Vikram.
Trisha gets her share in the action movie and succeeds in adding colour to the film by spreading her charm. She looks ravishingly beautiful in songs. Her eyes and minute facial expressions are pleasing.
Prakash Raj comes through out the movie. His character is so powerful that he looks like a second hero. The versatile actor has brought a new dimension to the character of a gangster.
Ashish Vidyarthi in a small yet significant role is competent. His portrayal of a smart police officer, who means business, is flawless. Raghuvaran as Periyavar impresses but his histrionics have become predictable. Sherin in ‘Rangu Rangamma’ is impressive.
Kanal Kanan (action) and Rajashekhar (camera) have added immense value of the film. Kanal’s setting up of the fighting sequences is certainly a treat for action movie lovers. Rajasekhar’s camera work is brilliant. The shooting of intermission fight in the darkness stands out.
Harris Jayaraj’s music, which is already on top, fits well in to the movie. Almost all the songs have come out very well.
Overall, Bheema has lived up to the expectations up to a large extent. Lingusamy and his powerful team have succeeded in presenting an action oriented entertainer. True to its name, Bheema is a power packed action entertainer.

Bheemaa Review 1

After 'Maaja' it has been long since vikram's film had hit theaters. Now the veteran hero is back with a bang in his new avatar 'Bheema'- a man known for his great stature and strength!!! After the movie ‘Saamy’, Vikram and Trisha are pairing together for the second time in this flick. The film is being directed by Lingusamy. The enthusiastic director already gave so many hits like Run, Sandakozhi, Deepavali...Though the shooting of the movie started in April 2006 'Bheema' has faced several hurdles for its post production and finally it make into the big screen for this pongal festival.

Story line:
'Bheema' is not a usual gangster story like 'Dhil' or 'Dhool' as everyone expected. It’s about a person who grows up watching a rowdy as his role model. The person here referred was sekar (Vikram) and the rowdy here was chinna (prakashraj). Sekar was the son of a police head constable. From childhood sekar admires closely the lead rowdy of the local called 'chinna' all his mannerism and gestures. When the boy grew up he decides to join the gang of chinna itself. The way he become the member of the gang has been dealt with good screenplay by Lingusamy. After a long gap we can watch raghuvaran on screen. He plays the role of ‘periyavar’ actually he is the villan of the film. He also has his own underworld gang which has worst rivalry over chinna gang from beginning. Clashes between these two gangs were pictured with fierce excitement of pistols and unbelievable chases. Ashish vidhyarthi came as the police commissioner after intermission, the way he traps all the gundas by setting up an operation called ‘Bheema’ how chinna and sekar keeps on escaping from the hands of police was handled cleverly moreover very interestingly by the director. The climax was thrilling to watch as it was not a usual happy ending that one could always expect in most of the Tamil cinemas. In short the film says the man who takes gun in his hand will not think before he act rather decide to kill anyone on his way!!! sometimes the victim may not come in his way even.

Pluses and minuses:
The biggest + for the film is Vikram!!! the actor did all justice to the sekar character he played. It is a tough role --- that one could realize it if they watch the film. Vikram’s hard work must be appreciated. The way he looks in the big screen will make one imagine the Mahabharata bhima itself… hats off Vikram!!! Next + one could notice here is the songs and background music… ‘Mudhal Mazhai’ and ‘orumugamo’ songs were excellent and it is pleasing to hear and exciting to watch it in the theater. Well done Harris again!!! Trisha could have been used little better… one minus thing I noticed here was the song sequence… when a story runs at a fast pace suddenly from some where trisha and a song will come and it makes all screen play abrupt… prakashraj’s magic is too missing in the film some how !!!
Overall ‘Bheema’ is a mass entertainer with all masala ingredients that would definitely satisfies the long awaited hunger of Vikram fans…

SUN TV Snaps Bheema

The see-saw battle between Sun TV and the yet to be launched Kalaingnar TV, over Tamil film television rights continues. The latest on the big fight is that Sun TV has snapped Bheema television rights for an astronomical amount.

Bheema is the most eagerly awaited film in the trade after Sivaji and stars Vikram and Trisha, directed by Lingusamy. The film produced by A.M Ratnam was hot in the market and Sun TV who has almost the entire Vikram library of hits like- Anniyan, Maja, Swamy, Pithamahan, Dhool, Sethu and many others were keen to pick up Bheema.
Vikram films on television has been able to garner record TRP’s, and has also a repeat value, which some of the other stars do not have. A.M Ratnam, who had his own battle with Sun TV in the past was able to extract a very good deal from the network. He sold Bheema as a package to Sun TV and its sister network Gemini in Telugu for a price which no Vikram film has got in the past!

Bheema for Pongal this Jan!!

The long wait for 'Bheemaa' will be over this Pongal. The movie would hit the screens on Pongal day. Produced by A M Rathinam and directed by Lingusamy, 'Bheemaa' went to floors almost two year ago. Starring Vikram and Trisha in lead roles, 'Bheemaa' has been lying in the cans for long time. It witnessed troubles due to financial constraints faced by the producer and a couple of cases were filed by financiers seeking a stay on the movie.
Sources close to the producer say all troubles have now been sorted out and now the movie will most probably see the light of the day for Pongal.
Already the audio of 'Bheemaa' is a big hit. Harris Jeyaraj's musical score has topped the audio charts. It would be good news for Vikram fans, who can now see their favourite hero on screen after almost two years.
Vikram is now busy with his next project 'Kanthaswamy'.

Vikram speaks up!!

Vikram says Bheemaa will be an enjoyable and memorable film for all of his fans; he rates it as one of his best films so far. It is an action film shot in a stylish manner. Underworld is just a part of the story. It is a mix of action, romance and sentiment and is uniquely different from his other movies. As the title suggests, the hero is strong and brainy. He fights for a reason. Trisha is pairing up with Vikram after Saamy.

Hyderabad:
Shireen, an upcoming heroine in the Tamil industry, made her presence felt as an item girl in the Vikram-Trisha starrer Bheema, the Telugu version of AM Ratnam's film. The movie is going to be released sometime soon and Shireen was in town recently as part of the movie's promotion. Born to a Persian father and a Telugu mother, she speaks the Chittoor dialect of Telugu perfectly. Shireen is still new to the industry and needs to figure out the difference between a guest role and an item role. Shireen claims that she played a guest role in Bheema. She declares, "I will never do an item song in Telugu. I am ready to do guest roles." Her mom Yashoda too chips in: "Shireen did this guest role (meaning item song) in Bheema out of regard for Ratnam. She will not do the same in Telugu."
